What a bloody brilliant week I had in London. I remember starting this blog while enjoying a warm cup of tea at The Wolseley. I fondly recall staring blankly at my computer and an expensive basket of assorted croissants for a solid 15 minutes. But before I get ahead of myself, let’s backtrack to the very beginning. I was born a cute bundle of joy to a loving mum and dad. One day, a mean old wizard killed my parents in front of me and I became a really popular and powerful witch who saved the world… JK! Sounds like a good book idea though, someone should write it.
It’s time to play the game of 2 truths and 1 lie! Can you pick out which of these statements about me is false?
- I scored 32 points in a junior high basketball game but now cannot do a lay-up to save my life.
- I made an appearance on the Ellen Show.
- I hate sports and I would much rather watch the Real Housewives of Atlanta.
If you chose statement 3, you are correct! My basketball career peaked when I was going through puberty and I love (stalking) Ellen Degeneres.
After 9 months of moving jobs and houses, spreadsheeting other interesting things (e.g. my taxes), hitting up Coachella for the fourth year, and running around on a soccer field, I am happy to announce that this blog back in action! Please, ladies and gentlemen, hold your applause for the end. Now let’s make like Beyoncé and blow the dust off this ol’ bad boy!
Before Christmas, our girl Olivia was at a stunning 139o. So did Santa bring Olivia a bunch of coal? Or did she get her full range of motion?!
Flexion = 140°
Clearly, Olivia was on Santa’s nice list because she has finally achieve complete range of motion in her knee!
And here it is. The last NFL blog of the season! Week 17 signals the finale of the regular season. How will it stack up against week 16 which featured one highest number of injuries? Here’s week 17 by the numbers:
With the conclusion of week 16, there is only one week left in the regular season! Yes, only one more Sunday packed full with 16 NFL games! The bad news is the 2014-15 season is nearing its close but the good news is the playoffs are just around the corner! Now let’s take you (incredibly attractive) readers through week 16 by the numbers:
As I sit in the Edmonton International Airport on the busiest day of the year, I thought this might be a good time to give all of you Olivia groupies the most recent update on our most famous patient! We had a couple weeks of 137o. Will Santa bring her the gift of being closer to full range of motion this week?
I spent the majority of my Sunday with NFL in the background, a little more focused on decorating my house with Christmas lights, garlands, and anything else that’s shiny and bright. But fear not! I still tracked down any injuries. (#multitasking) The only difference was that I was excel spreadsheeting in an elf costume! And now I digress… Week 14 brought to us a miserable 49 injuries (woof!). Shall we compare how this week did? Yes! Without further adieu: week 15 by the numbers:
Thousands of measurements and exercise progressions later, Olivia was at a stunning 137o! Let’s see where this week takes her…
Flexion = 137°
No, that is not a typo! Hey, don’t sweat it, Olivia! At this stage in the game, maintenance is just as good as improvement. Plus at 98% of her range of motion (yes, I just did that math in my head… 137 of 140), all basic daily functions and recreational activities are doable. But to be sure, we’ll keep trying to reestablish those last 3 degrees. Why? Because I want her to be able to twerk like a champ! And everyone knows that takes the full 140o!
It turned out that unlucky week 13 wasn’t too unlucky after all. But silly week 14 decided not to follow the trend that its predecessor set. Here’s week 14 by the numbers:
49 = Number of players who missed game time due to injury.
Week 12 and its infamous shoulder pandemic marked the last week with any teams on byes for the regular season. That means we will have 16 games every week from here on out! If you were busy with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, allow me to share week 13 by the numbers:
Winter is officially here! The good news is that Olivia was able to plow her way through the snowstorm to see her wonderful physio. Last week’s measurement clocked in at 133o. In our 12th segment of follow-up Friday, her knee range of motion is…
There were 14 games and 41 injuries in week 11. Let’s see what this week has in store! Week 12 by the numbers:
50 = Number of players who missed game time due to injury.
6 = Number of players placed on season-ending IR.
I have a pretty cool family. My parents were both engineers and now they are expert retirees. They are also adorable. I have two older brothers – which explains my tomboy nature. Dave is a Senior Marketing Director at EA Sports and Ian is a doctor in Calgary. I’ve labeled myself as the “wonderful surprise” and “black sheep” of my family. Everyone is super smart and all I have is this stupid charisma and devilishly good looks. What the heck.Casting Dave to the shadows (sorry, bro, next time), we’re going to hone in on my middle brother, Dr. Ian Le. He’s the “smart one” who became an orthopedic surgeon. He graduated from the University of Alberta and completed his residency in Calgary. After spending a few years in Seattle and North Carolina, Ian specialized in foot and ankle injuries.
Halfway through Movember and staches are out in full force! I can tell you that Olivia is not growing any facial hair but she is getting better with every physio visit. Last week, she was at 131o. This week, the goniometer says…
Goodbye week 10 and hello week 11! There were an average of 3 injuries per game last week. Thankfully, this week was a little friendlier to NFL teams. Week 11 by the numbers:
41 = Number of players who missed game time due to injury.
Thirteen games have come and gone. How will this week compare to the 43 injuries that occurred in week 9? Week 10 by the numbers:
40 = Number of players who missed game time due to injury.
4 = Number of players placed on season-ending IR.
